๐Ÿฅƒ Bourbon Sips for the Weekend Races

Bourbon Sips for the Weekend's Races

Hi Reader!

TBH I do not care about horse racing. But come this weekend I'll tune in to both the Oaks on Friday and the Derby on Saturday with a bourbon cocktail in hand and cheer like I know exactly what I'm watching.

I'll pick a random horse, do no research, and cheer my heart out. I have no idea when this started, but now it's become my own annual tradition. It's also when I started sipping mint juleps.

Julep cocktails are a southern staple you don't see often here in Michigan - unless it's Derby Weekend. But they're easy to make, super refreshing, and not a cocktail to be overlooked.

Below are 3 julep variations for you to try, along with a few other bourbon recipes - in case lots of mint and syrup isn't your thing.

Classic Mint Julep

Blackberry Mint Julep

Blueberry Citrus Julep

Ginger Bourbon Sour

Bourbon and Ginger Cocktail

Brown Derby Cocktail

Kentucky Mule

Bourbon Smash

Julep Cups and Tools

Mint Juleps are easy to make in part because they're a make-in-the-glass cocktail. You don't need a cocktail shaker or mixing glass for one, but you do need a few key bar tools. And some crushed ice. Which you can create yourself with your freezer's ice, a cloth bag, and a mallet.

When it comes to those silver julep cups, they're a Kentucky Derby souvenir tradition that dates back decades. The idea is that the metal cup keeps your cocktail extra cold in the Kentucky heat while watching the races.

My color changing unicorn lemonade is one part science experiment and one part fun drink that's easy to do, makes only a small kitchen mess, and requires minimal supervision (especially once the simple syrup is made)....

4 Ingredient Pear Martini

A Quick ๐Ÿธ Break Before More Holidays Hi Reader! It's officially November, which means Thanksgiving is just a few weeks away. But I'm not ready to start figuring out Turkey Day just yet. So I'm not going to immediately start sending you Thanksgiving planning emails. I need a break, and a drink. This week's new recipe is a Pear Martini. It uses a largely forgotten and overlooked fall flavor - pear. With apple and pumpkin doing battle to be the autumn fruit favorite, pear's subtle flavor often...
